Tell us about yourself.
After 7 months I still identify myself as a newcomer. I came from Mexico, because I wanted to be with the love of my life. We both have a dream in common: to travel around the world and taste all the food and dishes that each country has to offer.
How do you spend your free time in Vancouver?
I feel very lucky to be here in Vancouver. To me it is one of the most amazing cities all over the Planet, not just because of the safety but for the amazing nature that surrounds it. We have water and good public services.
At the beginning, hiking wasn’t my favorite thing on Earth, actually I was always scared of hurting myself, but now I’d say it is one of the activities that I enjoy doing the most during my free time. Also, I love to read, and having so many options from the library makes it easier and cheaper.
What are some challenges you’ve faced with moving to Canada?
Moving to Canada is not easy, primarily because getting your education certificate is hard and includes a lot of time and effort. Also, I’d strongly recommend to anyone coming to Canada, to do a thorough research about immigration, time processing and what you would be allowed to do, regarding your immigration status.
Which place would you recommend to someone visiting your country?
If you are planning to go to Mexico, you can go to Guadalajara and take the Tequila Express, which is a train that goes to a land called Tequila, where you can actually learn how the alcohol is made, and please try all the food that you can, is very delicious, but always keep in mind that our food is always spicy, don’t trust anyone that says: it’s a little spice “pica poquito”. Is better to ask for no spice and then add little by little. Also, keep in mind to eat healthy one or two of the daily meals (Mexican food is way too greasy).
What are you hoping to achieve during your time at MOSAIC?
At Mosaic, I want to practice my English, schedule an IELST test and meet some new friends. It’s such a great community where you can always find friendly people.
