English Language Level Assessment
The Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) can help you understand your language level. A CLB Placement Test will look at your ability to Listen, Speak, Read and Write English. The results can be used for placement into language training programs or workplace training programs with a language component.
MOSAIC has been providing the CLBPT service since March 2007. All MOSAIC CLBPT assessors have post-graduate work in adult ESL, experience working with English language learners and are certified to administer the CLBPT.
What is the Canadian Language Benchmark used for?
Canadian Language Benchmarks are a national, standardized system of measuring a person’s English language proficiency. The CLB is used to inform ESL instructors, assessors, curriculum and resource developers, labor market associations, training programs, licensing bodies, and employers.
The CLB PT is NOT accepted by Citizenship and Immigration Canada as proof of language ability (see the CIC for language requirements for citizenship).
About the Test
The Canadian Language Benchmark Placement Test (CLBPT) is a streamlined, valid test that results in useful information for learners, educators and assessors. Tests can be taken individually or can be administered for a group (min. 8 people).
The CLBPT consists of:
A speaking and listening test
A writing test
A reading test
The CLBPT takes approximately 1½ hours in total.
Immediately after the test, clients are given a copy of their results, e.g. Listening 6/ Speaking 7/ Reading 6/ Writing 8.
The test result will also be sent to the employment counsellor/case manager within one business day.
The CLBPT takes place on Saturdays at 9:00am and 11:00am at the MOSAIC Vancouver office at Suite 206, 2555 Commercial Drive – just beside the Broadway Skytrain station.
