Community Profile: James

The Community Profile is a weekly interview with a member of our MOSAIC engage community.

This week, meet our instructor James, who has been with us since we re-opened our in-person English classes in 2021.

Who are you?

My name is James and I am a teacher at MOSAIC engage. I’ve been teaching English for over a decade now. I love traveling and I have recently taken trips to Spain and South Korea. I also love learning about other cultures, so I really enjoy getting to know all the students we have from different parts of the world.

How do you enjoy teaching at MOSAIC?

I love it. We are lucky to have a wonderful group of colleagues to work with and the students are amazing too. Everyone is so motivated to learn English. It’s a great environment to teach and learn in.

What is your favourite thing at MOSAIC?

Probably the great sense of purpose we have working with so many newcomers who are starting a new life in Canada. It’s great to be able to meet all the wonderful students from all over the world and help them achieve their goals.

Where is your favourite spot to go in Vancouver?

It’s gotta be Steveston! That’s a small village near Richmond with beautiful beaches and great seafood. My wife is from there and I like going for runs and walks there as well.

Any tips you can give for studying English?

Try to keep English and your native language in balance. That means if you us your native language for two hours a day, try to match that with two hours of English. You don’t have to speak the whole two hours, but maybe practice your English by listening to a podcast or watching a show, do your homework, study online, or read a book.
