Please tell us about yourself and what you do at MOSAIC.
I am an ESL instructor at MOSAIC Engage. Teaching is rewarding because I always learn something from my students. It's great to connect with them and learn about their cultures. I've also taught and lived overseas, so I can totally understand the difficulties of living in a foreign country.
What are some of your favourite places to visit in and around Vancouver?
English Bay is great to visit during the springtime and summer. I recommend spending some time biking around Stanley Park. I also love visiting Cypress and Grouse mountains during the winter and summer. Both places are great for hiking, skiing, and seeing the beautiful view of Vancouver.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I love traveling and experiencing new things. I also enjoy doing outdoor sports such as hiking, snowboarding, and frisbee. If you've never heard of frisbee, Vancouver is the perfect place to learn and play!
Tell us about one of the best places you’ve travelled to and where would you like to go next.
I spent one month in Japan to study Japanese. It was a very strange but fun experience to be a language student instead of a teacher. I had such a great time getting to know my international classmates and visiting different places around Tokyo. Next, I would like to visit Vietnam and Indonesia.
What advice do you have for students who are new to learning English?
Don't be afraid to try new things, and visit as many places as you can! It's all part of the learning process and you can practice your English too. I recommend joining social events to meet Canadians and other international students so you have more opportunities to learn about Canadian culture and learn English outside of the classroom.
