Events in Vancouver: New Year's Eve

How are you planning to ring in the new year? As we say goodbye to 2024 and welcome 2025, here are a few ideas for Vancouverites looking for fun this New Year’s Eve.

While Vancouver used to have a New Year’s Eve firework show, this has been discontinued since 2018 :( Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait until summertime for the Celebration of Light to see fireworks in Vancouver. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t fun to be found for new years revelers!

One of the most popular spots to celebrate New Year’s Eve is the Granville Strip in downtown Vancouver. The many nightclubs there will be hosting New Year’s events, and they will likely fill up to capacity so you need to buy tickets in advance. However, even if you don’t make it into one of the official party venues, there is lots of partying going on in the street.

On New Year’s Eve the city normally shuts down Granville Street downtown to all car traffic. The strip becomes a pedestrian-only area and fills up with crowds of people partying and celebrating. You can’t drink alcohol in public on the street according to Canadian law, but walking around and having fun is free.
