Events in Vancouver: Orange Shirt Day
This year, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (also known as Orange Shirt Day) will be recognized as a public holiday in BC. You will see people around the city wearing orange shirts in commemoration of the victims of Canada’s residential school system and there will be memorials and marches held across Vancouver.
Here in our own Commercial Drive community, Britannia Community Centre will be holding an Orange Shirt Day march on Saturday.
When? Sep 30, 2023 9:30 am - Sep 30, 2023 2:00 pm
Where? Meeting at 1719 Franklin Street
Wear your orange shirt on September 30, 2023 and join the community to honour residential school survivors, their families, and those who did not make it home.
Schedule
9:30am Assemble outside of the Vancouver Aboriginal Community Policing Centre (1719 Franklin Street).
10:00am Walk to Grandview Park (1657 Charles Street).
11:30am Welcome and sharing at Grandview Park.
12:00am-2:00pm Sharing food (Elders and survivors served fist).

Orange Shirts
After September 28, East Van Orange Shirt Day Tees designed by Heiltsuk artist KC Hall can be purchased at the Britannia Info Centre at 1661 Napier Street.
All proceeds go to directly funding Indigenous-led programming via the Reconciliation in Action Committee.
