Language of the Day: Holiday Phrasal Verbs
There are few particular phrasal verbs that you might find more useful this time of year. Check out the blog below for definitions and example.
hang up: to place decorations around your house
example: The family next door hung up their Christmas lights on December 1st.
put up (the tree): this phrasal verb is used to refer to the trees many Canadian put inside their houses during this season
example: “Have you put up your Christmas tree yet?” “Oh yes, we put up the tree last week and the kids helped decorate it.”
send out: to distribute a large number of something
example: Every year, Marie sends out a holiday card to all of her friends and family.
put off: procrastinate, do something later
example: I have been putting off my Christmas shopping, and now it’s almost too late!
sing along to: sing out loud while a song is playing
example: Everybody at the party was signing along to Jingle Bells when it came on.
stay up: to stay awake very late
example: The kids always try to stay up and see Santa Claus.
