Community Profile: Greg
Meet Greg, one of our students in the afternoon Intermediate ESL program at MOSAIC Engage!
Tell us a bit about yourself:
Hi MOSAIC, I’m Greg from Guadalajara, Mexico. A vibrant city known for its culture, food and warm people. I have always had a passion for traveling and exploring new places, which eventually brought me to Vancouver, Canada. I enjoy meeting new people and discovering different cultures, and moving here has been one of the most enriching experiences of my life.
How do you spend your free time in Vancouver?
Vancouver is an amazing city for someone who loves the outdoors and diversity. In my free time, I enjoy exploring the city’s neighborhoods, visiting local markets, and trying different restaurants — there is incredible food from all over the world here. I also love spending time at places like Stanley Park or Queen Elizabeth Park, especially since the scenery reminds me of how beautiful nature can be.
What are some of the challenges you’ve faced moving to Canada?
Like most immigrants, one of the biggest challenges has been adapting to a new culture and system. The weather was also quite a shift coming from Guadalajara! But perhaps the most personal challenge has been being far from Mexican food. Over time, I know Vancouver has some Mexican Restaurants that im tripping to get to know.
What place would you recommend to someone visiting Canada for the first time?
I would definitely recommend Vancouver as a must to know stop. It offers a perfect mix of nature, culture, and urban life. The mountains, the ocean, and the multicultural atmosphere make it truly unique. If they have more time, I would also suggest visiting Banff National Park — the landscapes there are absolutely breathtaking and unlike anything I had ever seen before.
