Community Profile: Alejandra P

This week, we had the opportunity to chat with Alejandra, one of our international students at the MOSAIC Engage Burnaby Language Centre and we are more than happy to share her story and community profile!

Tell us about yourself

My name is Alejandra and I am from Mexico, and I am a very friendly person. I am honest and I like to dance and to go to the cinema! 🎬🎬

How do you spend your free time in Vancouver?

When is winter time, I don’t usually go out as much; I go to the movies or to have dinner at a restaurant with my husband, but not very often.

In the summer time, once the weather gets a little bit nicer, I love to go hiking, visit the beautiful lakes, and whatever outdoor activities I can fit on my schedule.

Sometimes, I like to go cycling in downtown Vancouver.

What are some of the challenges you have faced moving to Canada?

The language barrier, definitely! And also, not being able to find a job because of the language limitation.

What place would you recommend to someone visiting Canada or Vancouver your country?

I cannot decide! This is a difficult question. But if I would have to recommend a few places to go in Mexico it would have to be Oaxaca, Cancun, Yucatan, Mexico City and, of course, Guadalajara, my home town!

Guadalajara City in Mexico

What do you hope to achieve during your stay at MOSAIC?

I hope to improve my English.
