Community Profile: Deborah

This week our student, Deborah, who is taking IELTS Prep classes with us, gave us an interview about her life so far in Vancouver. Thanks for sharing with our community profile Deborah!

Tell me about yourself and what do you do in Canada, particularly Vancouver?

I'm Deborah Calazans, from Brazil (to be more specific, my hometown is Rio de Janeiro), I'm a Canadian citizen and proud of all my journey as an immigrant!  In Vancouver I work as a Manager at a private immigration office consulting, i have been in this field for more than 10 years and it's something that fills me up, helping people to reach their dreams in Canada.

Did you find any differences living in Canada than your home country?

I love Brazil, I love my people, but Canada gave me a quality of life quality and the most important for me, safety. I feel safe here as a woman. And I have too much more opportunities here, personal and professional saying. what would be and what advise you can give it to? An Advise... It's not be an immigrant, it's not easy to start over. Sometimes we feel alone, lost, but it's worth it!

How do you usually spend your spare time back in home county and how about now?

I love nature, either in Brazil or here, I try to spend time doing outdoor things, taking care of my health, especially my mental health.

What are the goals you want to achieve in Canada?

I want and I'll become an Immigration Consultant, to help more people, like me, to achieve their dreams.

What are the challenges you have encountered and you wish you knew before moving?

I always say to people who are moving here that they need to be open minded, in all aspects. Because this is a new beginning. Don't get frustrated with language troubles... Don't feel less for doing jobs you didn't do in your country.
