Tell us about yourself.
I'm Fatima Burneo from Peru. I'm a newcomer to Vancouver, having been here for six months. I came here because my husband has been living here for the past ten years. I studied Marketing and worked at a Cement Company for eight years as a Leader in Marketing and Sales. I enjoy going out for walks and having coffee. Baking is one of my passions, which is why I am planning to open a sweets business.
How do you spend your free time in Vancouver?
In my free time, I volunteer with three organizations. Two of them involve working with kids, which I absolutely love! In the other, I help provide breakfast for the homeless.
What are some challenges you’ve faced with moving to Canada?
The language is definitively the first big challenge, if you can communicate is very difficult to feel comfortable. Looking a job and accustom to the system are others challenges too.
Which place would you recommend to someone visiting your country?
Vancouver is truly special; it's a mix of urban and natural environments. I recommend all outdoor activities, like riding a bicycle in Capilano, which is one of our favorite activities with my husband.
What are you hoping to achieve during your time at MOSAIC?
I really want to improve my English until I achieve an advanced level. I believe that I am in the right place because the level is really good, and my teacher is great!
