Community Profile: Kim
This week’s community profile is Kim who comes from Vietnam and studies Beginner English with us. Thanks for sharing your interview with us Kim!
Tell us about yourself!
My name is Kim. I come from Vietnam and moved to Canada to build a new life for myself and my child. I am passionate about learning, especially English, and I love literature and helping people. I have been studying at MOSAIC for a while and really appreciate the friendly teachers and welcoming environment.
How do you spend your free time in Vancouver?
In my free time, I enjoy walking in the parks, especially around Stanley Park and the Seawall. I also love exploring local libraries, reading books, and meeting new friends through community events. Sometimes I volunteer, which helps me improve my English and connect with others.
What is the best place in Vancouver to buy food from your country?
For Vietnamese food, I usually shop at 88 Supermarket or T&T Supermarket. They have many familiar ingredients like fish sauce, rice noodles, and tropical fruits. These places help me feel closer to home.
What challenges have you faced when moving to Canada?
One of the biggest challenges was the language barrier. It was difficult to communicate and understand people at first. Also, adjusting to a new culture and lifestyle was not easy. But thanks to the support from MOSAIC and kind people I’ve met, I feel stronger and more confident every day.
What do you hope to achieve during your time at MOSAIC?
I hope to improve my English so I can find a good job and support my family. I also want to build new friendships, learn about Canadian culture, and become an active part of the community.
