What are some of your favourite places to visit in and around Vancouver?
Vancouver is full of life and offers the perfect balance between city energy and natural beauty, which is something I truly love. I enjoy spending time downtown—going for walks, visiting cafés, trying new restaurants, and attending local events. I also love going to the beach, especially at English Bay and Kitsilano. My favorite spot, is the Sea to Sky Gondola on the way to Squamish. The views are breathtaking and it’s a place where I truly feel connected to nature.
What advice do you have for students who are new to learning English?
When I first started learning English, I was very shy and often felt embarrassed about making mistakes. Over time, I learned that mistakes are a natural and important part of the learning process.
My advice to new English learners is to practice as much as possible and speak with everyone around you—not only to improve your English, but also to build meaningful connections. Using online tools to work on pronunciation and grammar can be very helpful, and most importantly, never stop learning.
Tell us about yourself and what you do at MOSAIC
My name is Maria, and I’m originally from Colombia. I came to Canada in 2020 to study English and quickly fell in love with Vancouver. What started as a study experience soon became a place I wanted to call home, so I decided to stay and continue my studies in peace and conflict.
I recently joined MOSAIC as a Program Support Worker. In my role, I work at the front desk, where I welcome students, guide them through their first steps, respond to inquiries, and support administrative processes. My goal is to make every interaction as smooth, clear, and welcoming as possible, so students feel supported from the moment they arrive.
Tell us about one of the best places you’ve travelled to and where you’d like to go next
One of the most memorable places I’ve travelled to is the Czech Republic. It’s a country full of charm and magic—almost every corner looks like it came straight out of a fairytale. Cities like Prague feel frozen in time, and exploring them was an unforgettable experience.
For my next trip, I would love to visit the Philippines to enjoy its beautiful beaches, rich culture, and incredible gastronomy.
