Tell us about yourself.
Hi, I'm Nancy from Taiwan. I just came to Vancouver a month ago.
I am here to visit my cousins and to improve my English skills. I enjoy watching dramas, singing and running. I’m really excited to explore more of the city and meet new people!
How do you spend your free time in Vancouver?
In my free time in Vancouver, I love looking at the sea, and Stanley Park is my favorite spot.
On weekends, I often go for walks and go climbing with my cousin. For instance, two weeks ago, we went on a snowy hike at Elfin Lake. Even though the trail was about 22 kilometers round trip, the view was absolutely stunning and it felt like heaven.
What are some challenges you’ve faced with moving to Canada?
The challenges I’ve faced include the cost of living, English communication skills, adapting to a different culture and dealing with health issues. As a visitor, I sometimes felt frustrated when I couldn’t interact effectively with natives. Additionally, I have become lactose intolerant since arriving here.
Which place would you recommend in your country?
If you love natural sights, I would recommend Liuqiu,Taiwan’s North Coast and Golden Coast in Tainan. About Liuqiu,it’s the only coral island among Taiwan's offshore islands and its famous landmark is “Vase Rock”. It is also common to see sea turtles along the coast.
If you want to experience our culture, you can attend festivals like the Yuejin Lantern Festival, the Yanshui Beehive Fireworks Festival, and the Tachia Matsu Pilgrimage. It’s also great to visit our night markets, where you can enjoy a variety of street foods.
What are you hoping to achieve during your time at MOSAIC?
I want to improve my English speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. I also hope to make some friends and enjoy my time learning here.
