Tell us about yourself
My name is Orlando, I’m from Mexico I came to Canada about a year and a half ago to work as a chef in a Mexican restaurant on Granville Island. I joined Mosaic last December to improve my communication skills and meet new people.
How do you spend your free time in Vancouver?
Usually on my days off, I like to go to the Vancouver Public Library, go hiking in places near the city, and go skating in Stanley Park.
What are some challenges you've faced moving to Canada?
The most challenging part has been communicating with people from different countries in the same language, because we all have different accents when we speak English. However, I think it’s a great way to learn the language better.
What place in your country would you recommend to a visitor?
In Mexico, all cities are beautiful and very touristic. For a first trip, I would recommend visiting Mérida, Oaxaca, and Mexico City, as well as our beaches and archaeological sites.
What do you want to achieve in your time with MOSAIC?
I hope to keep improving my communication skills, so I can express myself better in daily life in Canada and grow in my job.
