Tell us a bit about yourself
My name is Rana, and I’m originally from South Korea. I came to Vancouver on a Working Holiday visa, and I’ve been enjoying life here while experiencing a new culture and meeting people from all over the world. I’m someone who loves trying new things and staying active, and I especially enjoy spending time outdoors.
How do you spend your free time in Vancouver?
I spend a lot of my free time climbing, especially bouldering. I also enjoy going for walks and exploring different places around Vancouver. Since Vancouver has so many beautiful mountains, parks, and outdoor spaces, I try to spend as much time outside as I can. I also enjoy meeting friends, trying different restaurants and cafés, and simply enjoying the city.
What are some of the challenges you’ve faced moving to Canada?
One of the biggest challenges was getting used to communicating in English. At first, even simple conversations could feel stressful because English isn’t my first language. I also had to adjust to a different culture and way of life, as well as being away from my family and friends back home. But over time, I became more comfortable and confident. Looking back, those challenges helped me grow and become more independent.
What place would you recommend to someone visiting Canada for the first time?
I would definitely recommend Vancouver, especially Stanley Park and the North Shore. I think Vancouver is a great place to experience both the city and nature at the same time. You can enjoy good food and cafés in the city, and then be surrounded by beautiful mountains, forests, and the ocean just a short distance away. If you have time, I would also recommend visiting Whistler and exploring some of the beautiful nature around British Columbia.
