Please tell us about yourself and what you do at MOSAIC.

My name is Ruby Mathew, and I hail from India. I own a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering and MBA which I completed after moving to Canada in 2023. Currently, I am working part-time with MOSAIC as an Invigilator, a role that I have enjoyed the most. I truly appreciate the supportive environment, where we work together as a team, ensuring to deliver the very best service to our customers and making sure to stay aligned with the vision, mission, and values of this organisation.

I do miss my family, traditions, culture, and cuisine deeply, and at the same time  I am greatly thrilled about this new chapter of my life. While I seize each new day as stepping stones, I hope to adapt to this new culture, and build true and valuable friendships that will last a lifetime. I eagerly wish to  learn, grow, and contribute positively to the community of this beautiful country and establishing a fulfilling career, here in Canada.

What are some of your favourite places to visit in and around Vancouver?

I have not visited many places here in Canada, but being a nature lover, I try to visit parks and explore trails whenever possible. I loved visiting the Queen Elizabeth park in Vancouver which has  a spectacular view at the top. It is the highest point in Vancouver, and the park includes sculpted garden, with a wide range of trees and floral garden. There is a conservatory at the top where you can buy souvenirs and also see a paradise of birds , fish and different species of plants that are protected in a temperature controlled environment.  It is a great place to visit during the spring as the bloomed cherry blossoms adds to the beauty of the park.

Another, place of my interest is the Pacific Spirit Regional Park, Vancouver which incorporates forests, creeks, and  beaches. It was an unforgettable experience, exploring the trails on foot , which reminded me of the Poem “ Passing through the woods” by Robert Frost which goes ‘The woods are lovely dark and deep ... but I have promises to keep.. miles to go before I sleep and miles to go before I sleep. After the long walk, the beaches give a clam and cool feeling, rejuvenating and freshening up our souls for the journey ahead of us. It is a great place to visit if you love trees, trails and walking.

What advice do you have for students who are new to learning English?

I just want assure the newcomers that you have taken the right step to learn English and you are at the right place. You may find the road tough, but do not lose hope, stay strong, and just give it all what you have. You will definitely reach your career goals and we at MOSAIC just look forward to hear all of your success stories in the days to come.

ALL THE VERY BEST!!!      KEEP ROCKING!!!

Tell us about one of the best places you’ve travelled to and where would you like to go next.

The best places that I have travelled is Hong Kong and Macau. It was my dream come true day when I visited the Disneyland theme park. The Fantasy land, which showcases all characters, from fairy tales and Disney films in real life was the greatest attraction and unforgettable moment. Tomorrowland and Adventureland were other attractions. Toy Story Land, Mystic Point experiences were unbelievable.

Macau offers  vibrant street markets and lively experiences  including rides, entertainment, enchanting views, breathtaking experiences including bungee jumping. Macau is the only place in China where casinos are legal and the biggest source of income.

I would like to visit Switzerland someday, to experience the beauty of its mountains, lakes and stunning natural landscapes. I want to enjoy hiking, and the mountain train journeys of Switzerland. The chocolate and cheese tasting experience is considered to be unique and  I just can’t wait for it.
