Tell us about yourself.
My name is Shabnam. I was born in the south of Iran. I used to work as a manager in a pharmaceutical and vaccine company. Back home, I was a veterinary doctor, and nowadays I work as a caregiver for the elderly. I started my new job just one week after immigrating to Canada.
How do you spend your free time in Vancouver?
I’m very flexible when it comes to having fun in my spare time, as my schedule often changes. In the mornings, I enjoy having coffee at different cafés and exploring new places. In the evenings, I love dancing, so you can often find me at events.
What are some challenges you’ve faced with moving to Canada?
I didn’t have major problems with English, as my level was already acceptable. However, Canadian people helped me a lot to further improve my language skills. After a while, though, I started to suffer from homesickness.
Which place would you recommend to someone visiting your country?
I recommend visiting Shahzadeh Garden, which is located near my city. It is both historical and beautiful, and a true masterpiece of engineering.
What are you hoping to achieve during your time at MOSAIC?
My first and foremost goal is to achieve a 7+ in IELTS. After that, I would say it’s always good to make friends.
