Events in Vancouver: Canada Day

2023 marks the 156th year since Canada became officially recognized as a nation separate from the United Kingdom, though of course the history of this land is much much older than that as indigenous peoples have lived on these lands we now call Canada since time immemorial.

On July 1st of every year, you’ll find events all across the city celebrating Canada Day long weekend as people come out in their red and white clothes or costumes and join all sorts of activities. If you want a list of what’s happening in your city, check out the link here. Whether you want to celebrate in North Van, New West, Abbotsford, or Downtown, there is something happening everywhere!

One of the most popular events in Vancouver is the annual event at Canada Place, which is one of the largest Canada Day celebrations in the country.

This event is now planned in collaboration with the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations in hopes of creating a welcoming experience for all people who live in this country.

This year, the theme will be “Weaving together the fabric of a nation,” which honours Canada’s diversity and marks the day as one for gathering, celebrating, learning and sharing.

The gathering will feature a day of festivities, great food, family fun, and performances.
