Events in Vancouver: Mother's Day Powwow
This weekend, the annual Mother’s Day Powwow is hosted at Trout Lake Community centre in honour of local First Nations matriarchs. This event is free for all ages, so come see the drumming, vendors, and meal service this weekend.
The annual Mother’s Day Powwow at Trout Lake takes place over the weekend of May 9th to 11th 2025. It is free for all ages, no registration required.
This event takes place on the traditional and unceded Coast Salish territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓ əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and sə̓ lílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
A powwow is a celebration of Indigenous culture, featuring dance, music, food, and crafts. It's a gathering where Indigenous communities come together to honor traditions, foster community, and experience spiritual healing.
This powwow honours local First Nations’ matriarchs, especially those impacted by the MMIWG2S and opioid crises. There are drum groups, dancers and market vendors. (MMIWGT2S+ refers to missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirited persons)
Inside the centre there’s a small Indigenous market during the event, as well as an Elder room and meal service to enjoy as a community. There’s also plenty of drumming and dancing that happens at the South-West baseball diamond on the other side of the park.
