Events in Vancouver: Watch a Movie at the Rio Theatre or VIFF’s Spring Break Showings
The Rio Theatre is an iconic Vancouver movie theatre that is located just around the corner for our Commercial Drive MOSAIC engage centre!
The Rio opened in 1938 and is known for its eclectic showings including current critically acclaimed films as well as cult classics and old favourites from every genre. Their programming also incudes live shows and events.
Although many people prefer to watch movies in the comfort of their homes these days, nothing beats the experience of going to the movie theatre!
Most of Metro Vancouver’s movie theatres are now modern multiplex cinemas with high-tech screens and audio systems as well as roomier seats and aisles. Although the newer theatres are great in their own way, the Rio has a nostalgic charm and fits in perfectly in the Commercial Drive neighbourhood.
The VIFF (Vancouver International Film Festival) Centre, is holding a special festival during Spring Break at Vancity Theatre in downtown Vancouver.
Some of their special Spring Break programming includes the “Beyond Ghibli” Japanese Anime from March 18-30.
All elementary and secondary schools in Vancouver will be closed for one or two weeks for Spring Break.
You can expect to see more children and teenagers out and about during the weekdays, and a lot of community centres and other organizations will be holding special events and programs!
