IELTS Tips: Using Sentence Connectors to Show Contrast

The IELTS Writing Task #2 presents a point of view or argument and requires candidates to express an opinion.

The writing topic may not specifically ask test-takers to provide both advantages and disadvantages, but it is beneficial to learn the appropriate vocabulary and phrases to show contrast.

Furthermore, considering different points of view and the pros and cons can help you develop a more fully formed response.

And most importantly, you will have more freedom to choose what to write by not limiting yourself to a single point of view!

 

Here are some conjunctions, conjunctive adverbs, and phrases to use to connect comparative and contrasting ideas and opinions.


Even though children could benefit from joining multiple extracurricular activities, it is important for parents to consider their children’s interests.
