Events in Vancouver: World Waterfowl Day
Winter in Vancouver may bring cooler temperatures, but Stanley Park remains full of life—especially along the water. If you’ve ever noticed flocks of ducks, diving birds, or unfamiliar species resting on the lagoon and wondered what they were, Birds of a Feather: Winter Waterbirds is the perfect way to find out.
Hosted by the Stanley Park Ecology Society (SPES), this guided outing invites participants to slow down, observe, and connect with the park’s fascinating winter birdlife in a relaxed and welcoming setting.
What Is Birds of a Feather: Winter Waterbirds?
Birds of a Feather is SPES’s monthly birding program, and this winter edition focuses on the waterbirds that spend the colder months in and around Stanley Park. The park’s waters come alive with quacks, splashes, and preening feathers during this season, making it an ideal time for birdwatching.
You don’t need any prior birding experience to join—the program is designed for beginners and nature lovers of all levels. Curiosity is the only requirement.
Meet Your Guide
The walk is led by Kris Cu, a local birder and the Digital Media & Outreach Specialist for Birds Canada. With a background in biological sciences from Simon Fraser University and a passion for wildlife photography, Kris brings deep knowledge and enthusiasm to every outing. His approachable style makes learning about birds fun, engaging, and accessible.
