Many students choose Candidate A.
After all, it contains:
Complex grammar
Formal vocabulary
It sounds "advanced."
…But in reality, many IELTS examiners would prefer Candidate B.

What Really Separates Band 6.5 from Band 7?
Many Band 6.5 candidates believe:
"If I use more complex grammar, my score will increase."
So they try to pack every answer with long sentences and sophisticated structures.
Unfortunately, that's not how IELTS Speaking works.
Complex grammar can help—but only when it's used naturally and accurately.
The real issue is that many candidates focus so much on sounding advanced that they forget to develop their ideas.

Band 6.5 often tries to sound impressive.
