Community Profile: Davit

Davit comes from Georgia and started studying with us last September. Since then he has progressed through the levels and is now in the Advanced ESL course. Thanks for sharing your experiences with this week us Davit!

Tell us a bit about yourself

My name is Davit, I am 24 years old, from Georgia. I moved to live in Canada a year and a half ago. On the recommendation of my relatives. By profession I am a cook, I work in one of the famous seafood restaurants in Vancouver called The Sandbar Seafood Restaurant on Granville Island. I want to reach great heights in my profession and I think I chose one of the best countries in the world.    

How do you like to spend your free time in Vancouver?

In my free time, I like to visit restaurants to find new dishes, tastes and aromas. Try international food.

What are some challenges you’ve faced with moving to Canada?  

These are the biggest difficulties I have encountered with the language barrier. Which takes time to feel and start speaking. But in general, people are all friendly and will never let you feel humiliated. Because they are mostly visitors from different countries of the world

Which place would you recommend to someone visiting your country?

I am from Tbilisi, Georgia. If you want to visit the old city of Tbilisi, be sure to visit the ancient Temples and Museum. Try the national food and be sure to drink delicious wine and enjoy the views of the old City.

What are you hoping to achieve during your time at MOSAIC?

I want to improve my English, learn to write, read, and communicate freely.
