My name is Farnaz, and I’m from Iran. I moved to Vancouver four months ago with my husband. I joined MOSAIC in the spring to improve my English and to connect with people. I believe building new friendships is very important when starting life in a new country, and MOSAIC has helped me begin that journey.
How do you spend your free time in Vancouver?
Although I haven’t had the chance to explore all of Vancouver yet, I’ve already enjoyed some wonderful experiences like hiking and paddle boarding. The natural beauty of Vancouver continues to amaze me.
What are some challenges you’ve faced with moving to Canada?
Adjusting to a new culture, learning to communicate in a second language, and finding a job in my area of expertise have been the biggest challenges so far. But I’m working through them step by step.
Which place would you recommend to someone visiting your country?
Iran is a country full of ancient history. Every city has something special to offer. I especially recommend visiting Persepolis, the ancient capital built by Cyrus the Great. Walking through its ruins is like stepping into a thousand-year-old story. Iran also has incredibly diverse natural landscapes—from deserts to forests and beaches. My top recommendation is Shiraz, a city known for its poetry, culture, and beautiful sites.
What are you hoping to achieve during your time at MOSAIC?
To me, MOSAIC feels like a safe and friendly space where newcomers can learn and grow without stress. My main goal is to improve my English and communicate more confidently with native speakers. I also hope to meet new people, learn about different cultures, and form new friendships.
