Tell us about yourself.

My name is Leila. I am 53 years old and originally from Iran. I recently moved to Vancouver. In my home country, I own a travel and tourism company where I am the CEO. Here in Vancouver, I live with my son and I am unemployed.

How do you spend your free time in Vancouver?

In Vancouver, I spend most of my time studying and learning English. Sometimes I go shopping or take walks. Cooking is part of my daily routine. I don’t have many friends in Vancouver yet.

What are some challenges you’ve faced with moving to Canada?

The first challenge of moving to Canada is being far from my family and friends. The second is learning the language, and the third is finding a suitable job.

Which place would you recommend to someone visiting your country?

My country is very large, and each province has a different climate. Depending on the season of the year, you can choose a city based on the weather. For example, in the winter I would recommend Chabahar or Kish. In the summer, Shahr-e Kord and Kermanshah are good options. In all seasons, Isfahan is wonderful with its historic bridges and large bazaar. For nature, I would recommend the north of Iran, which has landscapes and geography very similar to Vancouver.

What are you hoping to achieve during your time at MOSAIC?

By attending the language classes at this institute, I hope to improve my English, speak fluently, and use grammar correctly.
