Tell us about yourself!

My name is Marian. I am originally from Egypt. I am married and moved here with my husband. We live in Coquitlam. I am passionate about nature and animals, and I enjoy making new friends. I consider myself an ambivert.

How do you spend your free time in Vancouver?

I work as a freelancer. In my free time, I like to improve my English by visiting the library and joining different events. I studied at an adult secondary school and I’m currently at Level 12. I enjoy discovering new parts of British Columbia and traveling around BC whenever I can. Canada’s nature is beautiful, and British Columbia is especially green—almost like a piece of paradise.

What is the best place in Vancouver to get food from your country?

British Columbia is incredibly beautiful. Places like Stanley Park, Lafarge Lake, Cultus Lake, Whistler, and Vancouver Island are all special in their own way. I also enjoy walking around downtown Vancouver. It’s hard for me to say which place is the most beautiful, but I love walking along the ocean in White Rock, where the sea stretches out to the horizon.

What some challenges you’ve faced with moving to Canada?

One of the hardest challenges for me was the language, and I think this is something many newcomers experience. The weather was also difficult at first because I came from a warmer climate. Over time, it has become easier, and I have started to get used to it.

What are you hoping to achieve during your time at MOSAIC?

I hope this course will help me improve my speaking skills and form correct sentences more confidently.
I find the program at MOSAIC very well-structured, organized, and thoughtfully planned. It covers many practical aspects that help newcomers integrate into the community more effectively. The organization is also very selective when choosing instructors. Our teacher was highly professional, skilled in teaching, supportive, and fully dedicated to delivering the material in a clear and effective way. Overall, the program provided a valuable and engaging learning experience.
