Community Profile: Rina

Meet Rina, who is a very lively student in our one of our morning classes. We appreciate you taking the time to do your community profile and for all the fun and positive energy you bring to class!

Tell us about yourself.

Hi! I am Rina, I am Indonesian and have a background in Banking and Investment. I also love traveling around the world to collect memories and experience new cultures. It's been 4 months since I arrived Vancouver.

I came here to accompany my son to study and I am still waiting for my study permit for Post Degree in International Business Marketing here as well. I am so happy to start this journey with my son.

How do you spend your free time in Vancouver?

My son and I enjoy visiting new places and trying many restaurants, I often cook some Indonesian food and pasta and bake some bread at home when my son's off. I also love to socialize with my friends and hang out with them.  Mostly we try good coffee or desserts.

What are some challenges you’ve faced with moving to Canada?

I come from a tropical country so the colder weather has been quite tough. It rains too much and the weather is relatively colder compared to my country. It took the first 1-2 months to adapt to a new culture and English speaking.  I also have to prepare myself to study at college after more than 23 years and I think I have to learn faster, but that would be fun and challenging.  I've enjoyed every moment.

Which place would you recommend to someone visiting your country?

We have a lot of places to visit in my country. Bali is a famous city with many beautiful places, especially its beaches, which are similar to Vancouver's. Their culture, foods, and also the hospitality from the Balinese People is amazing.

What are you hoping to achieve during your time at MOSAIC?

I like being around many people. That's why I chose MOSAIC so I can learn English well, speak fluently, and prepare my listening, speaking, and grammar for college. At MOSAIC I can meet many students from around the world to share our different cultures and languages and make network with them. It’s so much fun and I believe studying in fun situations makes it easier for us to learn faster. I like all the people, classmates, environment, and teachers. Love it.
