Events in Vancouver: The Lantern City
As we’re getting closer to the end of Winter and the beginning of Spring, now is the perfect time to see some of Metro Vancouver’s light displays before they’re taken down at the end of February!
The Lantern City, in collaboration with Eastside Arts Society, Indigenous artists, and Asian Canadian artists, is a series of public art installations in and around downtown Vancouver. You can see the lit-up lanterns at Granville Island, the Pendulum Gallery, Jack Poole Plaza (near Canada Place) and outside of the Vancouver Art Gallery.
This year, The Lantern City’s theme is "to imagine a future where we are Born to be Free” which coincided with Lunar New Year and was inspired by the Year of the Dragon as well as the rich diversity of Vancouver.
The Lights at Lafarge are also being taken down at the end of February, so this weekend will be your last chance to see the largest free outdoor light display in Metro Vancouver!
Make sure to snap some photos along the 1.2 km path around the lake. The lights are turned on every evening from 4:00pm to 10:00pm.
Lafarge Lake is in Coquitlam and is conveniently located just steps away from the Lafarge Lake – Douglas Skytrain Station, which is the last stop on the Millennium Line. There is also free parking available.
