Events in Vancouver: Vaisakhi Parade

This Saturday, April 14th, Vancouver will have one if its most exciting cultural events: The Vancouver Vaisakhi Parade!

Vaisakhi is a Sikh festival that celebrates the Spring harvest and marks the beginning of the Indian Solar New Year. Every year around this time, Vancouver holds its Vaisakhi Parade, which is one of the largest Sikh parades in the world.

People from all races and cultures are welcome to attend and take part in the festivities. In addition to the floats you would expect at a parade, you will also find performers and live music by people from our community.

However, the most beloved part of the Vaisakhi parade has to be the food! Hundreds of local residents and business will be handing out free food and beverages to everyone who wants some.

Come try some delicious Indian dishes like meethe chawal (sweet rice with saffron and dried fruits and nuts), lassi (a sweet milky drink), and chole bhature (spicy chickpeas with soft bread).
