Language of the Day: Inevitable

Vancouver is located within a coastal temperate rainforest, meaning that rain in the city is unavoidable.

Even though people in Vancouver know it rains a lot, we still have a hard time accepting the weather.

It is inevitable that it will rain, and it’s also inevitable that Vancouverites will complain about it!

-Inevitable: something that is unavoidable and certain to happen.

It is inevitable that we will encounter delays and traffic jams during our commute at some point. That’s why most of us give ourselves some extra time just in case something comes up.

For example, the skytrain is bound to experience service delays and disruptions from time and time, and buses often arrive late because of traffic due to rush hour or construction projects throughout the city.

-bound to: certain to do or have something.

Whenever we’re learning something new, like a second language, we’re bound to face challenges and setbacks. It’s important to remember that challenges and setbacks are natural parts of the learning process, and it’s also inevitable that we will see improvements with consistent effort and time!
