World Refugee Day: A Time to Reflect and Connect
World Refugee Day is an international observance dedicated to honouring the strength, courage, and resilience of people who have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict, persecution, or natural disasters. This year, the Vancouver Public Library (VPL) invites the public to its Central Branch to commemorate the day through personal storytelling and cultural exchange.
MOSAIC’s BC Newcomer Services Program (BC NSP) will be participating in this meaningful event, joining community partners in raising awareness and amplifying the voices of refugee claimants who have journeyed to Canada in search of safety and belonging. Attendees will hear powerful, first-hand stories and have a chance to engage with individuals who are shaping their new lives in Vancouver.
What You’ll Experience
This free public event offers a welcoming space to connect, learn, and show support for displaced individuals in our community. The program will feature:
Storytelling from refugee claimants about their lived experiences
Information booths from local organizations
Opportunities to meet staff from BC NSP and learn how MOSAIC’s Settlement Support for Temporary Residents assists newcomers with housing, employment, legal services, and more
Whether you are a newcomer, long-time resident, or ally, your presence helps foster a more inclusive and compassionate city.
Let’s come together to celebrate diversity and the contributions of refugees to our communities.
