Tell us about yourself.
My name is Olga, and I am from Peru. The first time I came to Canada was to visit my cousin who lives in Alberta. She encouraged my husband and me to apply to move here, as we thought it would be a great opportunity for our kids and for us. My husband got a job, and now we are happy to be living here.
How do you spend your free time in Vancouver?
In my free time, I enjoy doing crafts, especially knitting and crocheting stuffed animals. I also like going for walks with my family and exploring new places around Vancouver.
What are some challenges you’ve faced with moving to Canada?
One of the biggest challenges has been being far away from my family. Another challenge is the language—when I first arrived, English was very difficult for me.
Which place would you recommend to someone visiting your country?
Peru has many beautiful places, from the coast to the mountains and the jungle, so visitors can have many different experiences. I recommend visiting Machu Picchu because it is very famous, beautiful, and full of history and culture. If you love nature, the Amazon Rainforest is an amazing place to explore. If you prefer the ocean, Lima has great food and lovely beaches. Peru is also well known for its delicious cuisine, such as ceviche.
What are you hoping to achieve during your time at MOSAIC?
During my time at MOSAIC, I hope to improve my English skills. I want to feel more confident speaking with other people.
